Three child prodigies grow up under the care of their mother, while their father left on them. Chas is a budding business tycoon from the age of fourteen, Margot is a playwright who has a secret life that no one seems to be able to understand or be a part of, and Ritchie is the tennis pro, whose tragically in love with his adoptive sister, Margot. These three grow up and are kind of estranged from each other's lives, till their father comes back and fakes stomach cancer. Chas, being paranoid from the unexpected death of his wife, moves back into the mother's house while his has a security upgrade. Margot's marriage to Raleigh is in shambles, so she decides that time away at her mothers may be a decent solution. Ritchie moves back since he spent a year at sea and really has nowhere else to go. Under the same roof as each other and their father, the siblings butt heads with dear old dad all the time. Chas has beef, due to his son's hanging out with dad in an unknown, dangerous environment. Margot has always felt left out, being the 'adoptive child' and doesn't really like to let anyone in. Ritchie is the only one who seems to full-heartedly accept his father back with open arms. In the middle of all of this, Etheline's accountant, Henry, and her fall in love. Royal is trying to come to terms with the woman he loves being in love with someone else. Top it all off with Ritchie's best friend Eli, being a dieing author/drug-addict, and this family is far from normal. From fake cancer to a real suicide attempt, this movie has humor, sadness, and complex story-writing that makes it worth watching.

You think Ritchie is just getting serious about appearance, but it turns out to be so much more.

This movie is literally amazing. I didn't realize how much I enjoyed it, until it was over. The highs are high, but the lows are incredibly low, and the sarcastic humor mixed with the sickeningly sad take on some of the characters really hits you in the feels. Ritchie attempts to literally kill himself. The happy-go-lucky, everyone is a good person, tries to kill himself, because he realized he didn't even know the love of his life. Margot never shared anything with anyone, and he feels like he should have been the one person she could always talk to. Royal is another character who, you think has a heart, turns around and is a total ass, then redeems himself so much, its crazy. Like you think he's a cancer patient, then turns out he was just broke and needed some place to live, then he saves his grandsons Ari and Uzi from Eli running them down the sidewalk. He is the ultimate redemption character. Margot learns to let people in, as she has always kept secrets and kept to herself. Chas learns to live and let loose every once in a while. Henry learns to move on and love again, and Etheline learns to take care of herself, and not just her children. Literally, every character in this movie learned a life lesson in an hour and fourty minutes. Hell, James Cameron's Avatar couldn't even tell a narrative where there was extensive character development in less than 2 hours. Wes Anderson and Owen Wilson wrote one hell of a script.

If you just want a plain good movie, or one that gives you every feel, check this one out.
