Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters (MOVIE) directed by Tommy Wirkola

The beaches of Corpus Christi, TX.
Notice the storm behind me.
So, I'm going to start this post off a little differently. I spent the last week in Corpus Christi, TX. I'm originally from Ohio, and its a drastic change. Everyone was freezing at the beach (photo on the left) when it was 60 degrees out. Compared to the fact that my home was under level three snow level warning, I'd take the 60 degrees. It honestly, felt like summer. The palm trees, the warmth, RAIN! I loved it.

Anyways, I'm back with a load of movies and television shows I watched while I was down there with my brother and watch out the for next week to see all the updates!

Now on to the point of the blog!

SPOILERS.
Hansel and Gretel are children when their father rushes them out into the forest in a hurry. He tells them to wait and hold tight, he'll get them later. Their parents never come back for them. While they are wandering the forest, they come across a candy house, and Hansel eats a portion of it. The witch begins to attack, but quick-thinking Gretel pushes her towards the fire and closes the oven door, burning the witch alive. This starts a long illustrious career of the Witch Hunters.
The story opens up on another Germanic town where Mina, a woman accused of witchcraft is in front of the whole town. Hansel examines her and determines her clean of witchcraft. The town's mayor hires them to eradicate the town's witch problem. A major holiday/solstice is approaching for the witches, and towns children are disappearing. Eleven children are gone and it is approaching quickly. After numerous run-ins with the witches, we find Muriel, the evil black witch is planning on making herself invulnerable to fire and death at the hands of Hansel and Gretel. Gorey, bloody, fight scenes splatter bits of witches every time all over the place. Literally, one big gore fest. After they catch a witch and hold her for question, Muriel is planning to attack the town. The last child they need for the ritual is a girl who was born in April. They needed six girls and six boys, one born in each month. The black witches take off with the child and Hansel and Gretel need to track Muriel down. They run across the dilapidated candy house where they killed their first witch. After speaking with Mina, they find out she's a white witch. Only the ones who practice black witchcraft become ugly and tortured. While they continue to wander the forest, they find Muriel at their old house that they lived in as children. Turns out, their mother was a Grand White Witch. The last blood moon, they tried to kidnap Gretel to use the heart of a Grand White Witch to finish the immortal process. Gretel's mother was too strong to attack. The black witches put rumors in the ears of the townsfolk to destroy Gretel's mother to get her out of the way so that they could kill Gretel. This is why her parents hid her and Hansel in the forest. The townsfolk burned their mother and hung their father, which is why they never came back.
After another gory, bloody battle at the last minute on the Blood Moon, they bring down the witches and kill Muriel just as the sun is rising over the town. Hansel and Gretel return the children, collect their reward, and the town learns the true story of Hansel and Gretel.

SOOOOOO, I always liked fairy tales. My favorite movies include The Brothers Grimm, Frozen, Red Riding Hood, and Tangled. I love fairy tales weirdly enough. I didn't think this movie would be that good....mild fight scenes if any and a twist on a fairy tale.....................................I WAS SO WRONG. There was so much freakin' blood and guts that I was like...uh, YES. PLEASE. The story was more complex than the normal fairy tale and I absolutely love Famke Janssen. She was like...the Phoenix out of X-Men: The Last Stand. My jaw is like...literally dropped. I have seen gore, I have seen guts, but this is as much guts as a horror movie. I feel like this movie would have done better is it was literally just named something else. If they didn't feel the need to incorporate Hansel and Gretel into a new style. Making them Witch Hunters...even on a classic name, was like when everyone was super against Abe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Forget the fact that it was actually a pretty decent movie, everyone was still opposed to it for that fact.

Are you looking for supernatural beings and a shitfest of blood? Watch Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters.
