Alias Grace (2017 TV Show)

Alias Grace
Seasons: 1
Episodes: 6

Format: Netflix
Genre: Historical Fiction, Miniseries

Rating: 3/5

Grace Marks is considered a celebrated "murderess". She is convicted of the murders of her employer, Mr. Kinnear and his houseservant, Nancy Montgomery. Dr. Jordan, a psychologist forging ahead in this world, starts to put together her story, due to the fact they said she was in a mental hospital and had hard time remembering her own stories due to mental blocks.

The stories continue to be told by Grace, from her trip over the ocean from Ireland to Canada, her own mother dying on the way. Following her father kicking her out of the house and putting her into servitude, where she meets her best friend, Mary Whitney (her alias when she is caught by the police.

SPOILERS.
Mary is her best friend for many years and they even meet a peddler, Jeremiah, who becomes important later. Mary ends up pregnant from their master's son. To try to save the embarrassment and almost sure death it would cause her from falling pregnant, she went to a doctor who performed an abortion for her. Mary ends up bleeding out during the night and dying from the blood loss.

Grace becomes deeply depressed and the perfect opportunity comes across for her to go work with a lady named Nancy Montgomery, who is a house maid for a lonely bachelor. Nancy has a shrewd tongue and is really a B-I-T-C-H to deal with, so its no surprise any one would kill her...much less her own hired help.

As we see more and more of the story unfold, we see that Grace surprisingly, or unsurprisingly, becomes less and less of a reliable as a narrator until we find out in her hypnosis from Jeremiah, she is either mentally ill and has another personality that is Mary, or she is lying to get out of being put to the death sentence.

The consensus? It's a good show that had me hooked until the last episode. For real, I really liked it except I felt the last episode was boring a dragged. A pity truly.
